Policy

  • Program gives employees more than $600 a week for working a few hours less, but few are using it - Only 3% of the nearly 1.7 million Michiganders are participating in the Work Share program meant to alleviate layoffs according to MSU Economics Professor Charles Ballard, IPPSR affiliated faculty member. He also directs IPPSR’s State of the State Survey and is one of the hosts of IPPSR’s State of the State Podcast.
  • Kyle Vickery talks with Shelley Irwin on WGVU - MSU sophomore Kyle Vickery, an IPPSR Rosenthal Legislative Intern award winner – talked with Morning Show Host Shelley Irwin on WGVU radio about his award, advocacy work and plans for a political future.
  • Funding to support tribal response - The Department of Health and Human Services is supporting tribal response to Covid-19 with $11 million dollars. Part of the support has gone towards funding several workplace protection bills being introduced - one of which was introduced by Sen. Sylvia Santana, an IPPSR Michigan Political Leadership Program alumni.

Mark Huizenga, an IPPSR Michigan Political Leadership Program graduate, discusses potential issues with funding as the state reopens particularly with education as budget estimates are expected to potentially have a billion dollar shortfall. The discussion was on WOOD-TV’s To the Point show.
